Riding a bike in autumn

Remember all those lovely spring days when you had real fun riding your bike and exploring the perks of nature. If not, you have surely enjoyed the long rides at the beach on your beach cruiser. In autumn unfortunately, the ride on your bike will never be that pleasant if you do not know what to do and how to protect your bike from the severe effects of autumn changeable weather. Below we will elaborate on the main and most crucial protection measures and if you stick to these simple rules which will not take much of your precious time, riding a bike in autumn might be as enjoyable as in spring or summer.

The autumn changeable climate and temperature can affect the pressure of the tires of your bike. In the beginning of autumn expect to lose 1 psi in pressure of your tires each month. As the temperature falls, expect to lose even more. To be more precise, for each drastic fall of temperature of 10 degrees, expect your tires to lose at least 2 per cent. To solve this issue you will have to determine the optimal and most recommended pressure your tires should have. And here is a small piece of guidance on that topic: if the tires of your bike are narrower, count on the fact that they need higher pressure than the wider tires.

Take a look at the engraved numbers on the rubber of the tire. These will tell you the recommended values of pressure your tires should get. Considering the fact that your rear tire is supporting bigger percentage of the load, you should know that the rear tire must be inflated with 10 per cent higher pressure than the front tire. How much you are going to inflate your tire also depends on the weight of the rider. If the rider is heavier, then the tire should be inflated to its maximum value, whereas if the rider is lighter in weight, this is not an issue.

Enjoy the cool autumn mornings with slight mist and the beautiful landscapes only the skillful hands of Autumn can paint. You will not miss to experience this if you protect your tires on time, if you have your rear and front lights on in case of mist and if you avoid recently wet roads and puddles. Riding a bike in autumn is magical experience, for which, however, you have to be well prepared.
