Waterloo region bicycle rentals
Today the world tends to stay “green”. Everyday we can hear how we should try to help our little planet by not polluting it. But why not have fun while doing it? I think that we should take every minute and enjoy our planet. Like when in Waterloo, I think that the most adventures way to explore the city is to go and peddle our hearts out.
The first company that I ran into was the the bicycle forest. Here they rent everything that goes on two to four wheels and is powered by a human peddling force. The page is quite interesting I know I had my fun while searching it and I think you will too.
Now while searching it I found something more interesting that was brought in the Waterloo region couple of months ago. Bixi the bike sharing system. It’s a courtesy of the Public Bike System Company from Montreal. The manufacturer of Black Berry Reasrch in Motion (RIM) has set out 8 bixi stations on the company campus, and all of that just to get their employees get out of their cars. The bicycles aren’t that attractive and made of aluminum but they can be good when you need to get from one place to another. They are not that expensive, about $5 (Canadian) per day. The user of the bixi bike gets a code to unlock the bike by swiping a credit card and the first 30 minutes is free of charge. This project is on a six month trial period but it will soon be installed in the region of Waterloo. After you are finished using it you put it back to the nearby station. (This system is tried out in Paris, France and it works great, hope the Canadian will work too).
Also the area has a rental system for folding bicycles that operate on a similar level as the Bixi bikes. The area bikes have the task to get the working people from the trains (subways) to their jobs. All you need to do is rent it and bring it back before you go home and back on the bus (there weren’t many details about the fees but I don’t think it’s expensive.
Of course don’t exclude the possibility to look into other renting options in that area. The above mentioned are just my suggestion. No meter what you decide to do the most important thing is that you enjoy the peddling wherever you are going.
