The biggest advantage to going in the local store and seeing what they offer is that you can always test driving the bike. Going after a formula for baying a bike is rather irrational. The most important is that you feel comfortable while ridding it.
If you encounter problems while buying a good mountain bike from the local store you can always have it custom made. It might sound expensive, and it is to be sincere, but this bike will be built according to your body measurements. You mustn’t forget to test drive it first and than you can give your remarks to the manufacturer.
But, knowing that today is a bit luxurious to spend money on a custom build mountain bike you can always get it second hand. If you are not that good of an expert you can always take a friend with you who will help you make the right choose.
