Children’s bikes
Your child has finally come to an age when he/she would like to ride a bike. Many children’s wish lists for their birthdays or even in the letters they send to Santa Claus each year include getting a super modern children’s bike. Even if they were not, parents will be parents and will always try to make all their children’s wishes come true. However, before rushing out to buy the bike your child loves the most, there surely are several things you should check and bear in mind before purchasing it.
First thing one should consider very carefully is the age of their child. It is not recommendable to buy a bicycle if your child is under the age of 3. And why of 3 years precisely? Because research has shown that a child masters the skill of rotating the pedals when they reach the third year of their lives. And the third year of your child suggests you buy a bike with three wheels.
At the age of four, most children develop the sense of balance on a higher level, and this means that you child can have a bike on two main wheels and two small training wheels attached on the rear wheel because until the age of 9 your child cannot have the balance skills required for a two-wheel bicycle.
This is only the beginning. That is right, choosing a children’s bike is a more difficult task than choosing any other kind of bike. A child is going to ride it and one has to pay attention even to the tiniest details while choosing the right one.
You should not buy child’s bicycle with hand brakes if your child is younger than 5 years. Not only children younger than 5 years of age, but sometimes even ten-year old children have problems with this kind of bikes. The reason lies in their strength which is not enough to cope with the mechanism of hand brakes.
You should also think about the size of the bike you are going to purchase for your child and for that matter, we warmly advise you to consult an expert and take your child with you if possible. If you want to surprise your child, the presence of the child logically is not very desired situation. If you simply do not have the opportunity to consult an expert in the area you can do a good job yourself in choosing the perfect bike for your child. Remember, the height of the seat is not that much worth your observation as the size of the wheel is. If your child is 4 and younger the size of the wheel should not amount to anything bigger than 12 inches. The older the child gets, the easier will be to choose the perfect bicycle.
And a warning for the end, even though we are positive that you have thought of this, yet it is good to keep in mind. The safety and wellbeing of your child is first and foremost thing you should worry about. Therefore, a safety cycling equipment suitable for your child will cause fewer troubles and worries.
